Frequently Asked Questions And The Official Mountain Dog Answers

  1. BulletQ: Where do you get your rope?

A: We get our climbing rope from a variety of sources including climbing gyms, guides and rock climbers. You never know if the rope in your leash has been used to complete a cutting edge sport climbing project in Spain or by adventurers in Patagonia or the Himalayas.

  1. BulletQ: The rope in your leashes is used. How durable is it?

A: Climbing rope is designed to protect crazy people (like us!) who fall long distances from high places. Even when it has come to the end of its primary role as a climbing protection device, it is still exponentially stronger and more durable than any other leash material on the market today.

  1. BulletQ: The rope used in my leash looks new. What do you do to the rope before it gets repurposed into a leash?

A: Each rope is first thoroughly cleaned (using earth friendly laundry detergent), and then individually inspected for damage or other factors that would limit its suitability for use as a leash.

  1. BulletQ: Mountain Dog’s CLO (Chief Leash Officer) is really cool. Where can I meet a dog like that?

A: Jefe is a purebred Mexican street dog from Hildalgo, Mexico. He adopted us during a rock climbing trip to El Potrero Chico. To say he is a “great dog” would be the understatement of the century. If you do not want to go all the way to Mexico to find your next canine best friend, there are TONS of great dogs waiting for a home at your local dog shelter.

  1. BulletQ: In the unlikely event that I want to return a Mountain Dog product or need a replacement leash due to a “chewing mistake,” how do I contact you?

A: Send us an e-mail at and we will provide you with our mailing address. We answer all e-mails within 24 hours, no exceptions!
